  • Where can we buy a unicycle?
A great local resource is Singletrack Cycles in North Bend, where they offer a 10% discount to the team. Another great resource is UNICYCLE.COM. Both resources are on the TEAM LINKS page.

  • What size unicycle should I buy?
Unicycles come in a variety of wheel sizes, and for the beginner it is important to find a wheel size that is right for you. Unless your legs are just two short, anyone can ride a unicycle with a smaller wheel than is ideal for their size with the addition of a longer seat post, but it won't necessarily be comfortable. Riding a unicycle with a wheel that is too small feels like taking baby steps. An overly large wheel makes you take giant steps. You can ride either way, but it is easiest to learn on a wheel that is proportioned to your legs. To find what size is best for you, measure the length of your leg from floor to crotch. Now find your leg size on the chart to see which wheel size fits. Sizing Chart Inseam less than 23" = 16" Wheel Inseam between 22"-26" = 20" Wheel Inseam between 25"-33" = 24" Wheel Inseam greater than 33" = 26" Wheel One method to verify you have the right size is what when you are sitting on the unicycle, and one of the pedals is at the lowest point, your leg should be slightly bent.

  • Any specific type of unicycle parts to watch for?
YES! Be sure to look for a square fork (not rounded) -- this is important for advanced skills. NO METAL PETALS -- all pedals should be plastic and without metal exposed on the ends to protect our gym floor.

  • What are the parts of the unicycle?
Check out this great page over at Unicycle.com where it's all laid out for you. We also have this printed it in the gym...

  • At what age / grade can someone come and participate or learn to ride?
Preschoolers, and those in 1st and 2nd grade are welcome to come and join the team. We only ask that an adult come with them to assist with the learning process (and don't worry -- we'll help you out!)

  • Can I send a snack for before practice?
Snacks are of course allowed, but we ask that you refrain from any snacks with peanuts as there is at least one rider with a severe peanut allergy. New in 2008, all the backpacks will be kept in the gym, and no one will be allowed to go outside of the gym once practice begins.

  • What type of shoes should we get for riders?
Riders will want a soft soled shoe (good examples are Converse or Puma); it doesn't matter if the shoe is low or hi-top. Running shoes, Basketball/court shoes are not normally recommended as they can be very stiff and hard to do certain skills. Shoes should have a rubber bottom (no felt if possible).

  • Can I donate an old unicycle to the team?
Yes. We simply ask that it be in good, ridable condition.
